Valentine's Day Target

For Valentine's Day, we drove to Ventura to see the last big Target store that I worked on :) Hmmm... it looks like I was photoshopped in, but I really did finally get to see it.

California Architectural Oral Exam - your question is on paper!

I just found out that 30+ questions for the oral are now on a piece of paper for you to read! No more asking, "could you please repeat the question?" over and over again just to hear all of the parts of the question. Although, I used that line to buy time to think about my answer. :) Woo hoo for future architects!

Change Transmission Fluid in 2002 Toyota Prius

1. Looking under the car from the driver side wheel, the tank in the forground is the transmission fluid tank.
2. The hexagonal bolt right above the tank (photo: top slightly right from center) is the transmission fluid fill bolt and is removed to fill the transmission fluid.
3. Removing the bolt.

4. This is what the bolt and washer look like.
5. Using a 24 mm socket wrence, the bolt on the bottom of the transmission fulid tank is removed.
6. Transmission fluid is drained.
7. This is the transmission fluid tank pan gasket.
8. After the tank has drained, the bolts on the edges of the tank are removed and the pan is taken off.
9. One of the bolts removed from the edge of the tank.
10. The bottom pan of the tank with old gasket.
11. The inside of the pan is cleaned. The metal shavings are wiped from the surface of the pan.
12. The magnet that is found inside the pan is cleaned and put back into the pan. New gasket is placed on the pan and the pan is bolted back to the rest of the transmission fluid tank.
13. We used ATF Type T-IV.
14. To refill the tank with new transmission fluid, we attached a hose with a nozzle to the transmission fluid bottle (or another clean bottle that fits the hose with transmission fluid in it) and inserted it into the transmission fluid fill hole (where we removed the fill bolt) above the side of the transmission fluild tank. We squeezed a quare of transmission fluid into the tank. There are better tools than the hose with a nozzle, but this is a cheaper tool to fill the tank with transmission fluid.

15. When all of the transmission fluid was squirted in, we screwed the transmission fill bolt back in place.

Change oil on Toyota Prius

1. To change the oil in our Prius, we needed a new oil filter, 5 quarts of 5W-30 oil, an old rag, a wrench, a filter wrench, a gasket for the oil filter, something to catch the oil in and a funnel.

2. We jacked up the car.
3. Then we unscrewed the oil cap under the hood to prevent creating a vacuum as the oil comes out.
4. Then using a 14mm socket wrench, we unscrewed the bolt on the oil tank under the car, and let the oil flow out into a container. We lowered the car to get all of the oil out.

5. We poured a little bit of new oil from the hood to clean out the system.
6. Once clean oil comes out at the bottom, the system is cleaned.
7. We screwed the bolt back on and wiped the opening with a rag.

8. Unscrewed the oil filter with the filter wrench.
9. Let the oil drain from where the filter was.
10. Coated the new oil filter with new oil and placed the gasket on the threads where the oil filter goes.
11. Screwed on the new filter.
12. Poured in 5 quarts of oil per the manual.
13. Checked that there was enough oil.

14. Screwed the oil cap back in place.

15. Poured the used oil into the oil container and brought to Autozone/PEP Boys/Kragen for recycling. They have a bin in the back and we just went to the back and emptied our container.
