3. Then we unscrewed the oil cap under the hood to prevent creating a vacuum as the oil comes out.
4. Then using a 14mm socket wrench, we unscrewed the bolt on the oil tank under the car, and let the oil flow out into a container. We lowered the car to get all of the oil out.
5. We poured a little bit of new oil from the hood to clean out the system.
6. Once clean oil comes out at the bottom, the system is cleaned.
15. Poured the used oil into the oil container and brought to Autozone/PEP Boys/Kragen for recycling. They have a bin in the back and we just went to the back and emptied our container.
Well, you used too much oil, and too thick a viscosity.
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot of information on the internet about how much and what type of oil to use for an oil change. This blog is how we changed our oil based on the manual and where we live. It's also a reference for us to use when we change our oil in the future. Please research how to change your oil as appropriate for your situation and happy car maintaining!
ReplyDeleteWould this work for a 2002 Prius as well?
ReplyDeleteHi Shavon,
DeleteWe had a 2002 Prius and this is what we did based on where we live and how we used our Prius. I posted this mostly so that I can remember how to change our oil :) It's so easy to forget all of the steps.
Enjoy the weekend!
